Byetta reaches peak plasma concentration about 2 hours after injection with a half-life of roughly 2.4 hours — short enough to require twice-daily dosing. Bydureon uses biodegradable polymer microspheres that release exenatide slowly over weeks, producing a much flatter, sustained plasma profile that supports once-weekly dosing despite the underlying molecule's short native half-life.
