Oxytocin Dosage and Protocols
Oxytocin dosage protocols reported in published research, plus reconstitution and storage.
Intranasal Research Protocol
Research protocols commonly cite 20–40 IU intranasal, with 24 IU (6 sprays at 4 IU/spray) a frequently cited standard dose, administered 30–45 minutes before the target activity. Effects are reported to begin within 15–30 minutes and last roughly 2–4 hours. This is informal research-community convention, not an FDA-approved dosing schedule — the FDA-approved Pitocin dosing (for labor) is a completely separate, clinically-titrated IV protocol.

Reconstitution
A 10mg vial with 2mL of bacteriostatic water is the pairing reported most often. Injectable/research vial form: a common convention is a 10mg (≈300 IU) vial reconstituted with bacteriostatic water. Intranasal research kits are typically pre-formulated by the vendor at a fixed IU/spray concentration.
