Every compound below carries a REGEN research grade, from S (regulatory approval behind the use it is bought for) down to F (no clinical evidence). Ordering follows that grade rather than search volume, so the compound at the top is the one with the most evidence, not the one most often sold. Doses are those reported in published protocols and are not recommendations.
1. Semax
Semax is a synthetic peptide based on a fragment of ACTH(4-10), developed in Russia and used there as a nootropic and neuroprotective agent. It is associated with increases in BDNF and NGF, improved focus, memory, and stress resilience, and has been studied in stroke recovery. It is most commonly administered intranasally for direct central effect and is well tolerated. Human data outside Russian clinical use is limited.

2. Selank
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide based on the immune-active peptide tuftsin, developed in Russia as an anxiolytic with nootropic properties. It modulates GABA and serotonergic signaling and influences BDNF, producing anti-anxiety and stabilizing effects without the sedation or dependence associated with benzodiazepines. It is usually given intranasally and is well tolerated. As with Semax, robust data outside Russian clinical use is limited.

3. Dihexa
Dihexa is a small-molecule angiotensin IV analog studied in rodents as a potential memory-enhancing compound, working through the HGF/c-Met growth-signaling pathway in the brain. The foundational 2013 animal study reported memory restoration in impaired rodents, but no human trial has ever been published, and in 2021 the journal attached a formal notice of concern to that paper. There's also an unresolved safety question: the HGF/c-Met pathway dihexa acts on is one that some cancers also use to grow, and whether that raises tumor risk in people has never been tested.
- Cognitive Enhancement (grade F) — McCoy 2013 (J Pharmacol Exp Ther): memory restoration in impaired rodents only. No human trial. The journal attached a notice of concern in 2021, and two related dihexa papers were retracted in April 2025 after a university investigation found falsified data.
4. Adamax
Adamax (N-Acetyl Semax Adamantyl, Ac-MEHFPGPAG-NH₂) is a structurally engineered 9-amino-acid peptide derived from Semax, itself an analog of the ACTH(4-10) fragment. The adamantane group at the C-terminus is investigated for enhanced blood-brain barrier penetration and enzymatic stability relative to the parent Semax compound. The N-terminal acetyl group provides additional resistance to aminopeptidase degradation. Research — primarily derived from the parent Semax compound — shows modulation of BDNF expression and TrkB receptor phosphorylation in hippocampal models. No human clinical trial data exists; all evidence is preclinical.
5. Humanin
Humanin is a 24-amino-acid peptide encoded within mitochondrial DNA, first discovered in surviving brain tissue from Alzheimer's patients, where it protected neurons in culture from amyloid-beta toxicity. It's the most-studied member of the mitochondrial-derived peptide family (alongside MOTS-c) and acts as a cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory signal in cell and rodent models. In humans, circulating humanin levels naturally decline with age and correlate with metabolic and mitochondrial health — the basis of longevity interest — but that's observational association, not a measured treatment effect. No trial has ever administered humanin to people.

6. Pinealon
Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide (Glu-Asp-Arg, abbreviated EDR) developed by Vladimir Khavinson's research group in St. Petersburg — the same lab behind Epithalon. It belongs to a family of short 'peptide bioregulators' the group proposes act by binding DNA promoter regions to modulate gene transcription, a mechanistic hypothesis that remains contested outside that research tradition. Pinealon is studied primarily in preclinical/animal models for neuroprotective and cognitive-aging effects. It's sold only as a research compound; no FDA approval or large human trial exists.
